Working with Commercial Refrigeration at Fine Food Australia

Representatives from the Australian Government’s Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (GEMS) Regulator and New Zealand’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) attended the Fine Food Australia exhibition from 10–13 September to engage with suppliers and users of commercial refrigeration products.

Information on the proposed changes to commercial refrigeration regulation was provided to interested parties at the exhibition. In the lead up to commencement of the proposed regulation, GEMS and EECA staff will continue to provide education and assistance to all regulated parties to ensure compliance with the new legislative requirements.

Registration requirements for products under the existing Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Refrigerated Display Cabinets) Determination 2012 were also discussed with suppliers at the exhibition. GEMS Regulator staff will engage with those suppliers with unregistered products to return them to compliance.

An exposure draft of the new Determination will soon be available for consultation. Following approval by the relevant Ministers in Australia, and NZ Cabinet approval (of amendments to the Energy Efficiency (Energy Using Products) Regulations 2002), the new regulation will commence no earlier than 1 December 2019.  For further information, contact energyrating@environment.gov.au
