Dishwashers, 2014 Determination
The information below relates solely to the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Dishwashers) Determination 2015. It will be replaced on 4 October 2025.
You cannot register models under this determination from 4 October 2025.
Models registered to the determination must continue to display the corresponding Energy Rating Label until the registrations expire on or before 3 October 2030.
Overview
Dishwashers have become a modern convenience that many households cannot live without. While these appliances are a great help, they also consume both electricity and water, adding to household energy and utility bills and greenhouse gas emissions.
The Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Determination for dishwashers assists consumers to choose energy-efficient models and as a result, reduce the energy consumption and emissions impact of these appliances.

Legislation
In Australia, this product is regulated under the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Act 2012.
In New Zealand, the relevant legislation is the Energy Efficiency (Energy Using Products) Regulations 2002. Visit the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority website for more information.
What products are covered?
Dishwashers that are ordinarily supplied and used for household or similar purposes are covered by the Determination.
The Determination only covers machines that clean, rinse and dry dishware, glassware, cutlery and (in some cases) cooking utensils, by chemical, mechanical, thermal and/or electric means.

The following standards are referenced in this Determination and are available for purchase from Standards Australia.
- AS/NZS 2007.1:2005 Performance of household electrical appliances – Dishwashers – Part 1: Methods for measuring performance, energy and water consumption.
- AS/NZS 2007.2:2005 Performance of household electrical appliances – Dishwashers – Part 2: Energy efficiency labelling requirements.
The versions of the standards that apply are the versions that existed on 31 October 2015, when the Determination came into force.
Minimum Energy Performance Standards
There are no Minimum Energy Performance Standards for dishwashers.
Testing your product
Your product must be tested in accordance with the requirements contained in section 2 of AS/NZS 2007.2:2005, subject to the modifications outlined in subsection 7 (3) of the Determination
Labelling Requirements
When supplying (or offering to supply) dishwashers in a retail store, an Energy Rating Label must be placed on any dishwashers on display.
The Energy Rating Label must be placed on the upper front of the dishwasher or any display front. The Energy Rating Label must not be obscured.
