The information below relates solely to the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Incandescent Lamps for General Lighting Services) Determination 2016. It will be replaced on 4 October 2025.
You cannot register models under this determination from 4 October 2025.
Overview
Energy-efficient lighting can create significant savings in energy consumption, household bills and greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Determinations support the development of energy-efficient lighting products and deliver quality and consistency to consumers.

What products are covered?
Products covered under this determination include incandescent lamps used in general lighting services in the product classes.

What products are not covered?
Products not covered under this determination include:
- automotive lamps
- the following special purpose lamps:
- lamps intended for traffic signals as outlined in AS 4113.1:1993 Traffic signal lamps Part 1: Lamps for 240V a.c. operation
- very long life lamps intended for air or sea navigation purposes
- lamps with a temperature rating greater than 300 degrees Celsius intended for use in ovens
- infra-red heat lamps
- reinforced construction (rough use or vibration) lamps, that are not intended for general purpose illumination and have packaging (and accompanying product information) that states clearly and prominently the special purpose of the lamp and that the lamp is not intended for general purpose illumination.

Minimum Standards
The Minimum Energy Performance Standards for this product are established in AS 4934.2-2011 Incandescent lamps for general lighting services – Part 2: Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) requirements.
Testing your product
Your product class must be tested in accordance with determination and standard. The testing requirements depend on the class and characteristics of the model, and are established in sections 6, 7 and 8 of the determination.
Labelling requirements
If you are supplying or offering to supply these products in a retail store, the products labelling requirements must be meet under section 7 of the determination and section 2 of AS/NZS 4934.1:2014 in relation to light output in lumens, power in watts and average lamp lifetime.
