GEMS Act: 2017 Review
The Australian Government commenced a review of the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Act 2012(GEMS Act) in 2017 and released the final report on the outcomes in June 2019.
The independent review is a statutory requirement to ensure the Act remains appropriate and effective in reducing Australia’s energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Law firm Allens was appointed to undertake the review and produced a report including various findings and recommendations.
The report was also informed by discussion paper submissions and responses to the November 2018 draft report. Feedback from group and one-on-one meetings between the reviewer and stakeholders was also included.
