On 28 March 2025 the government assumed a Caretaker role. Information on websites maintained by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water will be published in accordance with the Guidance on Caretaker Conventions until after the conclusion of the caretaker period.

2021 Residential Energy Baseline Study: Australia and New Zealand

The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources (the Department), on behalf of the trans-Tasman Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) programme, engaged EnergyConsult to update the Residential Baseline Study (RBS). A study into energy use in the Australian and New Zealand Residential Sectors which was previously undertaken in 2015.

The 2021 RBS develops a model for projecting energy consumption for all categories of residential appliances and equipment until 2040. The study includes several objectives such as potential peak electricity demand during extreme weather events, alterations to appliance efficiency and building efficiency and use of fuel technologies.
