New registration requirements for dishwashers, clothes washers and dryers

Families using wetgoods

There are changes coming to how dishwashers, clothes washers and dryers are tested and labelled for sale in Australia.

The changes reflect recent advances, improved testing and new trends for these products and help promote energy efficient appliances that can reduce energy use, household bills and greenhouse gas emissions.

Registrants and suppliers must adopt the new requirements from Saturday 4 October 2025, 12 months since the new regulations were registered. The specific changes include new:

  • testing and labelling requirements for dishwashers, clothes washers and dryers
  • Minimum Energy Efficiency Performance Standards for dishwashers and clothes washers.

Suppliers can choose to adopt the new requirements now or continue to sell existing registered models for the duration of their registration.

See Industry information for more details.
