Exposure Draft: Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Air Conditioners above 65kW) Determination 2019
On 4 August 2019, an exposure draft of the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Air conditioners above 65kW) Determination was released for public comment. The principle changes from the current requirements are the introduction of minimum energy performance standards (MEPS, and requiring the provision of Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating information at the time of registration) for air conditioners of over 65kW capacity. The Determination builds on the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Air Conditioners up to 65kW) Determination that was published on 1 April 2019. The Commonwealth Department of the Environment and Energy and New Zealand’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) have consulted with industry on the regulation of these air conditioners on behalf of the Equipment Energy Efficiency Committee (E3) under the Council of Australian Governments’ (COAG) Energy Council.
Once implemented, this standard will bring into effect the COAG Energy Council decision made in December 2018, to introduce tighter minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for air conditioners.
The draft Air conditioners above 65kW Determination makes use of several references to the Air conditioners up to 65kW Determination published on 1 April 2019. Having a copy of the up to 65kW Determination available will greatly aid understanding of the content of the draft above 65kW Determination.
The public comment period on the exposure draft of the above 65kW Determination is open until 4 September 2019.
