Energy Ministers agree to new energy efficiency requirements for digital displays
On 19 July, Energy and Climate Change Ministers agreed to the recommendations of a decision regulation impact statement to:
- increase the minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) applying to televisions and computer monitors
- expand the scope of these standards, and
- introduce energy efficiency requirements for digital signage displays for the first time.
Ministers also agreed to the recommendations for changing energy labelling requirements to make them easier for retailers to comply with and the labels easier for consumers to understand.
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water will begin preparing new GEMS determinations covering these products. The determinations will be published as exposure drafts for public comments and submissions.
