Improving the star ratings of swimming pool pumps

We’re consulting on the energy efficiency rating of swimming pool pumps.

Swimming pool pumps circulate water to keep pools and spas clean.

Since 2022, swimming pool pumps sold or supplied in Australia must display an energy rating label with a star rating of its energy efficiency.

The consultation paper covers options for how star ratings and minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) are calculated. Improving how the star ratings are calculated would lead to ratings that better reflect actual performance.

We welcome feedback from manufacturers, retailers and anyone else with an interest in how star ratings are calculated for swimming pool pumps.

There will be an online forum where we will present a summary of the issues and options, and where you will have an opportunity to ask questions. If you would like to attend, please email GEMSProductReview@dcceew.gov.au by 5pm AEST, Monday 14 March 2025.

Feedback and comments must be lodged by 11.59pm AEST, Monday 14 April 2025 using the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water’s consultation website at E3 Swimming Pool Pumps – MEPS and star rating calculations.
