Consultation closed for distribution transformers: next steps

The Consultation Regulation Impact Statement (CRIS) for Distribution Transformers closed on 31 January 2025. We are reviewing submissions and will include this feedback in the Regulation Impact Statement for Decision (DRIS) in the future.

The CRIS, which was open for feedback for over 3 months:

  • examined options for expanding the scope of regulations and raising the minimum energy performance standards (MEPS)
  • included cost benefit modelling
  • included public information sessions, held in mid-November 2024.

Eighteen submissions were received from industry and indicated more industry consequences and concerns than were assumed in the CRIS. We will be engaging further with stakeholders as we draft the DRIS and update the Cost : Benefit modelling.

We expect to provide the DRIS to Energy Ministers in the second half of 2025.
