How multi-split air conditioners are registered under the GEMS Act

Air conditioners, including multi-split systems, covered by the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Air Conditioners up to 65kW) Determination 2019 and Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Air Conditioners above 65kW) Determination 2022, must be registered before they can be supplied or sold within Australia.

Multi-split air conditioning systems are defined as having:

  • separate indoor and outdoor parts, or ‘units’ that are connected with refrigerant piping
  • two or more indoor units, each of which can be individually controlled.
